When it's done it just pops up the interactive viewerĮasy to find the disk hogs from its intuitive roll-over interactive viewerĬons: Nothing much - fabulous the way it is This software makes it easy to quickly determine which files/folders are using the most space in your operating system. Intuitive to use - just point it at a folder or drive and set it to go. GrandPerspective is a unique application for Mac OS X that graphically displays file system disk usage within a visual interface that makes it easy to manage disk space allocation. Seems faster than other solutions similar to it Pros: VISUAL display of the relative sizes of files on the drive Rolling over any of these rectangles will show you the name of the file, as well as its path (the series of folders you open to find the actual file). Even with hundreds of thousands of files, it's really simple to see what the storage hogs are. The larger the file, the larger the rectangular area of the grandperspective window it takes up. But whereas whatsize produces an interactive report in list form, grandperspective shows you visually. ![]() Whatsize does something similar to grandperspective - you tell it which folder or storage device to analyze, and it comes back with a report about what's taking up all the space in that folder or on that device. I have used (and appreciated) apps like whatsize in the past. The reason why it's so great i s that it shows you visually. I love this app! it's far and away the best, most intuitive way to figure out what's really clogging up your mac's storage (hard disk, ssd, etc.). Rather like DiskInventoryX, GrandPerspective can explore any of the subdirectories contained in a certain folder without having to scan everything. GrandPerspective + Brew = Chocolate + Peanut Butterīrew is the “missing package manager” for Mac. However, I’m always wary of things still hosted on SourceForge. This is the most active open source disk usaged analyzer on the market. Sad!Īpparently, while I was busy being gluttonous with my storage and a newer competitior emerged on the market and it’s eloquently named GrandPerspective.ĭon’t be fooled by it’s rather outdated website with Times New Roman font. Recently I tried to kick the tires on my computer with Disk Inventory X to see where I could save a few gigs of space.Īfter about 10 minutes of chugging along - poor Disk Inventory X couldn’t handle the load and crashed like that one famous zepplin. Seriously valuable stuff when 80 gigabyte hard drives were price-y. It would allow you to visualize your disk usage at a glance. avi’s that were chewing up valuable disk space. Back in my day (circa early 2000’s), we used this awesome tool called Disk Inventory X to peek into our limited hard drives to find old legally sourced. ![]()
